Dorothea Findlater
Every one has a story, not too many of us can recount a momentious historical event in Irish History. I spoke to a remarkable lady in the R.D.S in 2016 the then 106 years young Dorothea Findlater who observed the smoke and shell fire from the water tower in the Curragh Army camp with her mother as a 6 year old. Dorothea's Father was staff Captain to General Lowe during the 1916 Easter Rebellion and indeed accepted the surrender from James Connolly, Thomas McDonnagh, Michael Mallin and Countess markievicz.
Dorothea along with Michael Mallin's son Joseph were the last two living links to the Easter Rising. Joseph who was 2 years old when his father was executed for his part in the rebellion. Michael in his last letter to his family instructed young Joseph to become a Priest, Joseph a retired Priest dutifully followed his fathers instructions and became a missionary he is the last person with a link to the Easter Rising.
